The exciting extended contest where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate 51 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
